According to information provided by JEITA on June 10, worldwide shipment volume of next-generation DVD drives for PCs is expected to grow dramatically over the coming years. These DVD drives will be introduced in the market at the end of 2005 and shipment volume will amount to 150,000 units this year. Shipment volume is expected to rise to 750,000 units in 2006 and to four million units in 2007.

 

Total worldwide shipment volume of optical disc drives, including existing DVD and CD drives, is forecasted to exceed 250 million units in 2005. The size of the share which next-generation DVD drives will occupy in the total optical disc drive market is expected to be low, with an estimated market share of 1.5% in 2007.
